l've been meaning to share a few educational things

April 2009
My 4 yr old son has been reading since 2 1/2 and I bet it would've been much younger had I heard about some of these DVDs earlier. (I recommend you get the "Your Baby can Read" ones NOW if your child is NOT already reading entire children's books on their own, spelling, and writing words well OR does have speech or other developmental delays OR is in the age range.) :) it’s for ages 3 months to 5 years. )

http://www.yourbabycanread.com/ Gotta see the videos of the kids there!

The below was written at the end of August- '07- my son was 2 1/2 at the time:
(teachers and therapists wanted the info as they were impressed with my son's VERY quick improvement after having developmental delays)

***
here is some info on the products that have helped my son come so far and so fast.

The (Best of) Electric Company DVD's Vol I & II (is all there is so far) (4 DVDs each)- a "reading" show aimed at teaching reading to 2nd graders but younger ones have been known to enjoy it too. By PBS- Same people as Sesame Street- made it 1971-1977. Buy from Amazon or Target.com. 20 episodes -30 min ea. in each 4 disk set (~$40 each set) This show came out around the same time I had already taught myself to read (by age 3)-meaning I was reading the newspaper- had NO children's books until Kindergarden.
We also got a DVD program called “Your Baby Can Read” it’s for ages 3 months to 5 years. (check out the demo/video at their website) I found that through a friends home based (children’s books) company website (they since have an infomercial and website now) http://www.yourbabycanread.com/special/?gclid=CPTQptTMu5cCFQ89awod12y0Tg It teaches kids to read even before they can talk. (see a word- touch the body part for example). It is totally fun and it’s at their own pace and you as a parent don’t HAVE to do anything except show the short video 2x a day. 5 DVDs in the set ($79.95)

Right now Ridgely's really getting into his Vtech "Tote & Go Laptop Plus" by V Tech ($19.99)- it's for ages 3-6 but online I found out that some younger kids were also interested in it. Was looking for him to play with his computer so he doesn't break my laptops that are always out. I mainly try to use it at an appropriate age level and allow it to ask him to "touch the capital letter" or "touch the number" but there are 30 games on it. Bought end of May.

My review of this on Amazon:

26 1/2 month old Boy LOVES this toy NOW- give it a chance!
I bought this right after my son's 2nd birthday. He totally didn't care for it in any way to start. I stopped trying after a couple days. Let it sit for a month. Planned to return it to Target. My speech/language delayed son in the interim started speech therapy and a pre-preschool (Early Intervention) for Dev delayed kids. A month after that started I tried the system again. He LOVES it now. Will play for hours especially if I am in the same room. He seems to want the acknowledgement/kudos from me that he said the correct word. Between the 5 weeks of therapy and this toy (mostly 2x a week therapy & school.) He's up to 60 words from 12. This toy makes my son excited to learn and his attention span w/ this is LONG.

A few months ago my son was really info the below
V.Smile™ Baby Infant Development System- video game for a TV w/ cartridges (April-May/June) teaches #'s animals, etc age 9 mo to age 3
